On May 4, 2022, the regularly-meeting academic seminar on foreign-language teaching methodology of the Department of Foreign Languages of the Faculty of Theology discussed topics in linguodidactics.
Professor Maria Desiatova of STOUH’s Department of Romance and Germanic Philology gave a speech at the increasingly international seminar. She shared her reflections on her long experience in teaching and on how the events of past years had influenced the choice of new teaching strategies and approaches to teaching. In her speech, Prof. Desiatova drew on new knowledge in the field of neurobiology, neuropsychology, and art pedagogy; she suggested to think about the harmful, cognitively inhibiting effects of long-term stress on the brain. Prof. Desiatova’s presentation provoked a lot of questions from colleagues, and a discussion revolved in particular around the question of how to test students’ overall knowledge.
All those at the meeting noted how fruitful cooperation via the methodological seminar had been. It has contributed both to teachers’ professional development and to improving their approach to teaching foreign languages.
