Professors and Students of STOUH Take Part in Serbian Song Contest

On May 15, 2022, the second round of the 12th International “Serbia in my heart…” Serbian Patriotic Poetry and Song Contest was held at the Embassy of the Republic of Serbia to the Russian Federation.

The contest was designed for four age-groups from schools, colleges, and universities from cities across Russia and Serbia. There were 28 entries in the second round; these included enactments and readings of poetry in Russian and Serbian, and choral and solo performances of Serbian folk songs.

The second round of the contest opened with a welcome speech by Mr. Momčilo Babić, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Serbia to the Russian Federation. In his speech, Ambassador Babić warmly welcomes all the children, participants, and their teachers, mentioning that this annual event brings together friends of Serbia and Serbian culture, and strengthens the cultural and spiritual relationship between Russia and Serbia, which have long and deep roots in history.

Students from Saint Tikhon’s Orthodox University of the Humanities (STOUH) – specifically, 2nd year students of the Faculty of History and and the Department of Slavic Philology – took part in the second round of the contest. A combined STOUH ensemble also performed in the contest, with a rendition of the Serbian folk song “Suza Kosova” (“The Tear of Kosovo”).

Elena Osipova, Senior Lecturer at STOUH’s Department of Slavic Philology, gave welcome address on behalf of the University’s Russian-Serbian Friendship Society. She read poems by two modern Serbian poets: Aleksa Šantić and Ranko Radović.
