From July 9–30, 2023, Sofia Chernikova, a student of Serbian Philology at STOU’s Faculty of History and Philology, attended a Serbian Language School in Montenegro for practice in language and country studies. Here is Ms. Chernikova’s report of her trip:
On July 14, 2023, His Eminence Metropolitan Andre (Gvazava) of Gori and Ateni defended his candidate of sciences thesis in theology at STOU’s Dissertation Council.
In November 2022, at a meeting between Patriarch Theophilos of the Holy City of Jerusalem and Elena Milsky, head of the St Mikhail Foundation, the Patriarch expressed a wish to employ Russian restorers to work on icons from the Patriarchate’s collection.
On June 25, 2023, after a difficult struggle with a grave illness, Prof. Irina Leonidovna Bagration-Mukhraneli, a literary scholar, expert in 18th-21st Russian literature and Russian-Caucasian literary and cultural relations, and the descendant of a famous princely line, died at the age of 77.
On May 22 and 23, 2023, the Institute of Distance Learning of STOU hosted the final certification for the students of continuing education program in Theology.
On May 28, 2023, there was an evening of music and poetry at which the results of the STOU Translation Contest, organized by the International Projects Department as part of the activities of the International Friendship Club, were summed up. Submissions had been accepted from March 7–April 30, 2023.
On May 26, 2023, Saint Tikhon’s Orthodox University of the Humanities hosted a meeting on “Pedagogical Heritage of Serbian Saints in the Spiritual and Cultural Context of the 20th Century”.
On May 25, 2023, on the Feast of Ascension, in the Conciliar Chamber of the historic Moscow Diocesan House, STOU’s main building, Metropolitan Nikoloz of Akhalkalaki, Kumurdo and Kars presented a documentary film “The Seven Words of Father Georghe Calciu”, dedicated to the life of the eponymous Romanian priest, an Orthodox ascetic, confessor of the faith, and an outstanding preacher of the truth of Christ. The film has Russian subtitles prepared by K. A. Chernorizov, a graduate of the Faculty of Continuing Education, at the initiative of Metropolitan Nikoloz.
On May 22–23, 2023, an international conference on Philosophy of Religion in the East and in the West was held in Kyrgyzstan, organized by Pontifical University of John Paul II (Cracow) and the Public Cultural and Charitable Foundation Svet liubvi (Kyrgyzstan). The conference was attended by scholars from Poland, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Germany, and various Russian universities and research institutes.
On May 17, 2023, there was a presentation of a volume of correspondence between Semyon Frank and Ludwig Binswanger, prepared for publication by members of the Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies of STOU, at the residence of the Swiss Ambassador in Moscow.
On May 16, 2023, Sofiia Tkachenko, a third-year student in Modern Languages, took part in the Linguistics section of a conference on “Young Scholars and Research: Developmental Trends in an Uncertain Environment,” organized by St. Petersburg State Economic University (SPbSEU).
On May 14, the 4th International Cooking Competition took place at STOUH. Once again, the event brought the participants and guests a lot of joy and some surprising gastronomic discoveries!
