According to Russian immigration law, foreign citizens have to be officially registered at a local office of the Russian Immigration Service within three working days after their arrival.

If you are staying in a hotel: All Moscow hotels take care of the official registration of foreign citizens. Upon arrival you will be asked to show your national passport, and will be given a paper with the official stamp of the hotel you are staying in (your registration). Keep the registration along with other important documents.

If you are staying in the university hostel: You are required to contact International Relations Department of St. Tikhon’s University upon arrival, and bring the following documents to our office not later than two working days after arrival:

  • a copy of your national passport
  • a copy of the Russian visa
  • a copy of the immigration card

If you are staying in a private apartment: Within three days your host should send the following documents to a local office of the Russian Immigration Service by post:

  • a copy of your national passport
  • a copy of the Russian visa
  • a copy of the immigration card
  • a special registration form (available at any post office upon request; you can also download the form here) filled out by your host. He/she will be also asked to produce his/her passport registered in Moscow
